What a quiet Tuesday morning reveals that a busy Thursday hides
Managers often ask us to come on the worst day. The Thursday permit rush, the enrolment Monday, the clinic after a public holiday. Those hours are real. They are also noisy. Application analytics that only samples the crush will blame volume for habits that already exist at 9:10 on a thin Tuesday.
On a quiet morning you see the default: which window opens first, whether the ticket machine is switched on, who restocks the pens, whether the privacy sheet is offered or left in a pile. When Thursday arrives, those defaults are still there, only faster and ruder.
Service Pulse Base will still sit your rush if that is the brief. We will also argue for one ordinary morning. Service usage insights that name only the crush give you overtime. Insights that name the Tuesday habit give you something you can change before the next crush.
If your quiet morning is staffed by different people than your peak, say so in the briefing. We need to know whose ordinary we are watching.
